Marble is an open source mapping program with which you can view any maps of the earth but also of other planets like the moon or the Mars. The software is available for all major operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Maps

Marble is very flexible. When looking at the cards, you can easily rotate or enlarge the earth or the other planets you are looking at. So it is possible to have a look at road maps as well as at a complete picture of the Earth from space. Marble comes with 5 to 1

megabytes of map data, the rest can be manually installed or will be downloaded from the Internet on demand. In addition, it is even possible to create or customize your own maps and to use them in the program.

Any maps, for example from OpenStreetMap, can easily be downloaded out of the program from the Internet.  This allows you to use different views such as satellite images and historical, political, simple or other maps.

For Developers: MarbleWidget

As a developer, you can easily use Marbe with the component MarbleWidget in your own software.

Sepcial Features

• Also a route planner that allows you to show the best connection between two places is included.
• Cloud images and weather data can be downloaded from the Internet and displayed live.
• The Wikipedia Modul can show you Wikipedia articles about the locations currently shown in your map.
