PuTTY is a free open source program to create secure connections over the network or the Internet. The software can serve as a client for Secure Shell (SSH), Telnet, rlogin or TCP. The tool was developed initially for Windows only, but has now been ported to numerous other platforms. The program runs in the console, a graphical user interface does not exist.
The program package contains PuTTY (the terminal emulator), PSCP (an SCP client), PSFTP (an SFTP client), PuTTYtel (a terminal emulator with rlogin and telnet client), Plink (client for telnet and rlogin), Pageant (SSH Agent), PuTTYgen (for creating RSA and DSA keys) and pterm (independent terminal emulator).
