The VLC Media Player, former VideoLAN Client or VLAN, is a multi talent under the media players. All common audio and video formats as well as DVDs and Video CDs are supported by this tool. Furthermore, there are versions of this program for nearly all systems and the application can also be used as streaming server (uni cast or multi cast).
Supported audio formats
Some of the supported audio formats are MPEG Layer 1/2, MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG Vorbis, AAC, AC3 (Dolby Digital), E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus), MLP/TrueHD, Musepack, Speex, DTS, FLAC, ALAC, Speex, ATRAC 3, Mod, TrueAudio (TTA), APE (Monkey Audio), Alaw/µlaw, AMR (3GPP), MIDI 3, LPCM, ADPCM, QCELP, DV Audio, QDM2/QDMC (QuickTime) and MACE.
Supported video formats
Supported video formats are MPEG, DIVX, XVID, MPEG-4, 3ivX D4, H.261, H.263, H.264, Theora, Cinepak, WMV, Sorenson (Quicktime), DV (Digital Video), MJPEG, Dirac/VC-2, Indeo Video und Real Video.
