This media player deliberately avoids gimmicks and a souped-up graphical user interface. Instead, the compact player is based on the appeareance of the old Windows Media Player 6.4. Nevertheless, the player provides everything you would expect from a modern media player. Under the hood, the program has been completely redesigned.

Almost all known media formats can be played with Media Player Classic. DVDs, VCDs and SVCDs can be easily and immediately played without installing additional codecs to the player.

A special feature is the possibility to save screenshots (also with subtitles) of the films and to play incomplete AVI files. It is also possible to use a soundtrack that is not included in the AVI file. This makes it possible to synchronize the sound perfectly. Multiple channels can be assigned even to a different, custom output. Thus, for example you can assign a special soundtrack to Rear Left.

After the initial development was terminated in 2006, the player has since then been developed as open source under the name Guliverkli2.
