Winamp is a player for audio and media files for Windows and now also available for Android smartphones. The program was created in 1997 by Justin Frankel (Nullsoft) as shareware and has been acquired by AOL. AOL is providing Winamp as freeware today.

Winamp supports all major formats such as MP3, WMA, WAV, WMV, MP1, MP2, MP4, OGG Vorbis and FLAC. With plugins, you can expaned this list. Other plugins allow file coversions, visualizing the replay, applying effects like echo or bass boost, or creating media libraries to manage your files. Another possibility to expand the application is through skins. A variety of skins is available, with which the user interface of the program can be customized.

Internet Radios

Winamp can also be used to listen to audio streams, for example from Internet radios. Nullsoft is providing the software SHOUTcast which can be used to offer an own Internet radio. On the homepage shoutcast.com, over 40.000 radio stations are listed, which can be listened to via Winamp.
