Cube is an open source first-person shooter, which can be played in single player or in multiplayer mode.  At the same time, cube is the name of a free open source 3D engine on which the entire game is based. First of all, only the game engine was developed, the game was developed from it later. A total of 102 maps are available for Cube. 37 maps are designed for the single player mode and 65 are available for the multiplayer mode. The game is very similar to Doom and Quake, and was honored in 2002 with the Happy Penguin Award for the best free 3D action game.

The single player mode has two modes. In one mode, the monsters will appear again and have a fixed position. In the other mode, there is a fixed number of monsters and the do not appear again. In the multiplayer mode, there are 12 different modes. With the modes, you can determine whether you want to play in a team or which weapons should be available for the players. In one of the modes, there are the weapons shotgun, rifle, chaingun, rocket launcher and the fist available.

Multiplayer Mapping

A special feature of Cube is muliplayer mapping. Cube contains a built-in map editor with which several players can work on the gaming landscape over the Internet. This is possible in some of the modes.

Cube 2 / Sauerbraten

Probably the last version of Cube has been published on 29 August, 2005. The game can still be downloaded and played, but it is no longer developed. The new version also includes an improved 3D engine and is called Cube 2 or Sauerbraten.
