The free open source program TuxGuitar is a music note sheet editor, sequencer and music composer for creating and viewing tablature. It is similar to the commercial program Guitar Pro.

The program was developed so that musicians, especially guitarists, can compose and manage their songs. In addition, also a playback of the songs from the program is possible. Each instrument can be stored in a different track. Furthermore some effects such as bending, palm mute, hammer-on/pull-off, slide and vibrato are possible, which are important for guitar playing.

Also to train and practice songs, the program is suitable. The playback speed can be adjusted as desired and the note sheet can be scrolled down automatically. In addition, the correct handles are displayed on a keyboard.

Supported formats

Besides its own format TG, also the import and export of Guitar Pro (GTP GP3 GP4, GP5), TablEdi (TEF) and Power Tab (​​PTB) files is available. An export is possible as a text file, PDF document, in MusicXML format or as LY (LilyPond).
